This is in response to speed issues that were discussed in this post.
The root cause of slowdown were big videos and image files that are attached to the stories. However, they add so much character to the posts that removing them wasn’t an option.
We have now added some code to the front page so that ‘Story Details’ and ‘Related Stories’ are only fetched on when a user clicks on the link. This should be invisible to most users and results in a drastic reduction in size. This also makes us less susceptible to speeds of other sites that may be hosting that material.
We are still testing this and would love to hear your feedback on this.
