We recently re-enabled anonymous voting on the site but did not assign any value to those votes. We have update the rules again and now anonymous votes are assigned value on a declining scale.
This means that the first anonymous vote has more value than the anonymous votes that follow it. Anonymous votes may help a story to get on the front page but you will need some user votes as well.

UPDATE (Sept 20) - For 18+ stories anonymous votes are now given the same weight as registered votes - read.
