OK, the title is a bad joke but we just wanted everybody to know that karma is now being used to promote stories to the front page. However, vote count is still very relevant.
As of today, a story needs a karma of 50 OR 7 registered votes to appear on the front page. Please note that the karma and vote count required for front page will change as we see more traffic.
