Users have recently complained that there seems to be excessive anonymous voting on some stories and the posters may be trying to push their stories to the front page.
We ran statistics on all stories on the site and found that some stories are getting a lot of votes from the voting widgets on the blogs. In these cases, most of the votes seem to be valid.
Most anonymous voting happening on the site also seems to be valid. However, we also see some anonymous voting patterns on the site that are clearly a result of user manipulation.
We don’t wish to stop anonymous votes but from now on we are reducing their karma value to ‘1′ and they will not be included in the vote count when a story is being considered for front page publishing (a story needs 50 karma or 7 real votes to reach the front page).
In addition, if users are suspected of account rigging (creating multiple accounts) they will be warned privately. We will try to work with the users but if we find multiple violations then their blogs may be disbarred.
This is a free service for all and we are trying hard to keep it fair and enjoyable.
