Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura, a regular venue of cricket ties till they were shifted to the Motera Stadium on the outskirts, is all set to host some of the 34 Indian Cricket League matches in its first event of the new season commencing on October 10.
The development follows the signing of an agreement yesterday between the Essel Group promoted rebel league and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, which owns the stadium, a media release said on Wednesday.
Under the terms of the agreement, ICL would spend Rs 10 crore in upgrading the stadium and the refurbishment would include Rs 3-4 crore worth floodlights, apart from the improvement of the pitch, outfield, dressing rooms, stands and common areas.
Speaking on the issue ICL Executive Board Chairman and former India captain Kapil Dev recalled his fond memories with the textile city, saying it was in Ahmedabad that he surpassed Sir Richard Hadlee’s World Test wicket-taking record.
