Femina Miss India pageant has a strong Karnataka connection. Its 22 karat crowns are manufactured at Swarn Mandir, a jewellery unit in Tumkur owned by P Kishor Kumar.Factory designs gold crowns for Miss India-Universe, Miss India-World and Miss India-Earth since 2004, excluding the year 2005.
It has 80 skilled labourers from West Bengal.They also make silver crowns for the 18 finalists. These crowns comprise 22 karat gold, diamonds, cubic zirconia stones and gems. Top jewellery brand and associate sponsor Tanishq outsources production of the three chief crowns to Swarn Mandir.
Total expenditure for the three gold crowns is Rs75 lakhs according to Tanishq Vice President (marketing and retail) V Govind Raj.
P Kishor Kumar established Swarn Mandir over an area of 17,000 square feet six years back, after operating a jewellery store for 15 years.
