After protests and controversies, a police probe now dogs the Indian Idol 3 show. The chief judicial magistrate of Darjeeling directed the police to conduct a probe against Fremantle Productions Asia and Sony Entertainment Television.

In the July 19 episode, Kolkata police constable and contestant from Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang sang a song dressed in a chowkidar costume. That triggered widespread protests in the Nepalese community including in Darjeeling and Sikkim.
