A group of sex workers of a red light area here have decided to undertake a pledge to donate their eyes during the ongoing Durga Puja .

Taking a cue from mythology wherein Lord Ram had offered to pluck out one of his eyes as an offering to the goddess, the sex workers have decided to donate their eyes, said Mahasweta Mukherjee of Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, which is involved in mobilising sex workers to tackle exploitation.

Kajal Bose, a sex workers and a member of Durbar said, “We don’t believe in the notion that those donating their eyes after death would be born blind in the next life.
