Sherwani is a long coat-like attire usually worn in India, which is very similar to an Achkan . It is worn over the Kurta and Churidar or sometimes with salwaar. Although Sherwani and achkan are similiar in many ways, they can be differentiated from achkan in the way that Sherwaniis made from heavier fabrics and it has linings. The history of Sherwani dates back to the British Era in the 18th century, when the English incorporated British Frock Coat with Salwaar Kameez. It was later taken in by the indian Aristocrats, mostly the Mughals as their daily attire and consequently by the general public.
