I’m not sure how good this would do.I have tried severaltimes to link to a yahoo news story… and have been disallowed. and yahoo news sometimes sends redirects….

We will also provide a lot of extra information in the feed such as votes, karma, images, etc as optional metadata which would help sites such as IndiaSphere to organize this as they wish.

@rohan – The redirect limitation was added as otherwise sites restricted by other lists just do a redirect dance with us.

A point to note here – In the new version, all users with karma over 7 will be able to submit links that redirect.

Wow, considering the ads on other desi sites like rediff, naukri etc… its amazing that indianpad team still holds their ground on users first

@rulerofera – Single link mp3 submission is available even today. The new feature is the album uploader…

Spam Fighting – These will apply to all users with karma less than 10. Over 10, you have ‘nearly’ no restrictions!

I was inactive for a few months and it brought my karma down to 7…I have to work my way up to 10 again.

WYSIWYG editor is a good suggestion but would it work with indianpad’s textile markup thing ?

WYSIWYG Editor will be good but it may spoil the aesthetics of the site. Seeing an extra toolbar is no problem but it must go with slick aesthetics of the site. IndianPad has been one of the best-looking sites which has ease of browsing and reading.

WYSIWYG is the best option for new users and the ones unfamiliar with HTML codes or textile. Maybe it can be done as an option to view or not which should be on by default and we can off it in out profile pages!!!

blockquoting is one thing I have been emphasising from long, check this story by indianboy where I had asked him to blockquote because I had quite wrongly thought his father had fallen ill- Here

WYSIWYG would help for sure, I ain’t saying it wouldn’t. Simple one just as the TinyMCE would do enough for me at leat in posting links, blockquoting, puting images as I have now a lot of practice of using HTML code due to lots of commenting and posting

@indianboy – Private messaging is already active. Check your profile, we just left you a message Its pretty basic right now but we plan to spice it up with more features in the future.

@rohan – Thanks for the suggestion. We have resisted bloating the site with any WYSIWYG editor but we may add it as an option for users. This would probably be added after the next update.

What about threaded comments and clickable tags to make put tags easier.

There would be a time limit on that? As in within an hour a user can’t submit 2 stories consecutively from the same site…..or it’s an overall thing?

@ indianpad: You might lose out on regular bloggers participating heavily then. Usually what happens is a blogger posts his own article and then while surfing around comes across cooler stuff.
The initial hook of indianpad to a small time blogger would be as a platform via which he can get more readers…..then he’ll realise the greater sense of the community….participate and comment on other articles and perhaps even post stuff from other blogs / sites.

The blogger gets visitors but what does he/she give in return. Some users here have great blogs but most users just post stuff from their blogs and nothing else. The restriction is only for consecutive stories so if a blogger wants the traffic then they will find stuff to post here…

Even if they revisit this, its a great idea to restrict users for a couple of hours if they are just posting stories from their own blogs.

Dude! They publish content! Sites like these thrive on content from users. You piss off your users….they shift to a different platform.
Sorry to be sounding arrogant, but I actually consult on Web 2.0 strategy….

I agree with ekalavya but I think IPad should design a system that rewards people (extra karma) that submit content from multiple sites and demote people that only pimp their blog here…

I think we can come to a compromise as follows. Only allow 2 consecutive stories per hour from a blog. This will encourage people to submit content other than their site but also allow them to participate here…

@ekalavya – Content is king but not everything… if it’s only content that matters, it’s easy to aggregate content via RSS.. but then the whole idea of user drive content submission is lost…

@beachbong – demote people that only pimp their blog here… I’d vote for that a million % (do see how many links I have submitted.. and check to see how many of them are for my own site)

See i talk of personal experience…..all my 30 published links have been articles from watblog.com. I ain’t using IndianPad to get users on WATblog – cos you won’t see a single ad on it….so traffic doesn’t matter much to me…but it’s nice to users appreciate good content. I use indianpad to read other stuff and in the mean time make sure i post all my articles….and at times i don’t….there are the biggie indianpadders Spencer et al…who do the honours.

I’ve studied online user behaviour for quite a while now…and especially amidst bloggers….quite a quirky lot!

without offending you in any way… may i ask… “why just watblog” ?, post anything that you deem “worthwhile” even if it’s from other blogs…

ow yeah. there are many who need “honors” from IP… all i said was that there were “few”.. I didnt mean few as in a number which you could count using your hands…

& if all the links/stories i posted were for my own site, i wouldn’t need any ads either..

threaded comments will be really nice for posts like this.
how about simple things like easy(direct) links to stories voted, commented, etc. right now i have to click on some someone’s name and then click on voted, commented, etc.
also live stat pages can made more active by showing stories clicked, user logged in, new user registered, etc.

I frequently find all my links – line them up and then get to posting all in a row and often I search my favorite sites and find 3-4 things to post in a row… it would be nice if the 2 posts per hour from the same site thing would not apply to those who have a karma over like 9 or 10 because I think it’s safe to say if you managed to get a karma that high – you aren’t a spammer… and it just makes it easier to post all your links in a row & not have to site around and wait just because you found more then 2 cool things on that site… I’m sure I can’t be the only person who posts like this… just a suggestion though – If I have to start doing it differently I will follow suite, but it would be nice if the higher your karma was the less restrictions you had….
