This story deserves a much better Description

The Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court on Tuesday sentenced Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt [Images] to six years in prison for his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Dutt will be sent to prison straight from the court, which is located inside the Arthur Road jail premises in central Mumbai.

He was fined Rs 25,000.

TADA Judge Pramod Dattaram Kode does not have the power to grant Dutt bail under the Criminal Procedure Code. Dutt’s bail will stand cancelled, lawyer Majid Menon said.

His lawyers said they would appeal against the judgment in the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Judge Kode pronounced Dutt an offender and said he was present at a dinner party attended by fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, the main accused in the 1993 blasts case.

The judge said Dutt had committed a series of offences and that he was mature when he committed these offences.

He added that Dutt had made co-accused Yusuf Nalwala commit an offence as well.

Dutt was almost in tears when the judge pronounced the verdict.

He asked if he could call his daughter Trishala, who lives in New York.

The judge asked Dutt “Where is she?”

“In New York,” replied Dutt.

“Be patient,” the judge told Dutt.

“Can you grant me bail?” Dutt then asked the judge. “If it was a lesser crime I could, but in this case I don’t have the power to do so,” the judge said.

i mean it does not make ny sense thing done 15 yrs ago inspite of knowing it they take the descision 15 yrs later

I agree Krypton…Justice has to be served but this late…thats ridiculous. Just imagine what the man went through for the last 15 years….His career is all but finished now…

What about the family suffering and mental state of those killed in Mumbai Blast? Just because he is an actor makes him innocent or deserves the sympathy? I love Sanju Baba but “Law is Same” for all.

Agreed Indianboy, I was not against his sentence, I was only against the time that it took for it be served and in this regard I am not talking only about Sanju, but the whole Indian judicial system…it needs to improve…

I agree on that TB, So many innocent have died or culprits escaped, all thanks the Indian Judicial System. Maybe someday ‘fast tracks courts’ will truly be fast. God bless Sanju Baba

I think he was framed into all this. Why should he go to jail for six years when he who caused the bombing is happily living outside. Even if he had some connection, he should have been fined a much greater amount (in lacs) rather than the 25,000 rupees which is the fine for small crimes like petty thefts in some other countries.

Sanju baba should feel lucky that he wasn’t booked under TADA, instead judge was rather kind and found him guilty only under Arms act

I guess this will be an eye opener to Salman Khan, Saif Ali and other stars. Sallu Bhai is roaming around free acting in movies and jumping around naked? He has killed people, he killed wildlife animals, abuses people and he roams around free. I hope that he goes to jail too! He can give company to Sanju Baba!

6 years is still such a long time

He was booked under Arms act, so judge could have given him anywhere between 5 to 10 years.Judge went easy on him by giving 6 yrs, I would have certainly gone for ten years

Anyway, sounds as if Sanju was lucky he only got 6 according to Spencer, he has already done 16 months so that minus and I would say 2 years off on good behavior, he should be out in about 2-3 years…so lets wait for him to finish his movies…
