I agree. Along with that we should spend sometime on voting down the spam stories too

I have been a little busy lately but whenever I get a chance I try to disable stories that seem spammy or have bad description.

I disable and mark as spam both but the comments should be shown as text only for new users… simple logic…

hmmm…. i too have the admin power but rarely use it to disable story… Idon’t know but generally don’t like to disable story without any harmful cause.

“comments should be shown as text for new users” – are there any developers in IndianPad team to implement new features like this? or is it a simple configuration that does this job?

Am new to blogging and also to Indianpad. But truly hesitate a little (or say alot) in using IPAD, the main reason being the spam.

Few days ago, google page rank update took place and Indianpad lost it’s awesome PR 6 to PR 5. The reason is almost known to everyone, SPAM. I was thinking two days ago, about posting about the continued downfall of IPAD. But as my stories would not be published, or could possibly get only some anonymous votes.. But that’s another thing.

Chetan is absolutly true, that’s indeed it’s easy to wake up Kumbhakarana, but no hope for Ipad Admin.. Just feels like he made a fully automated site, with a lot of great tools (spammers heaven) and just slept, Keeping IPAD server in the kitchen..

I mailed IPAD admin about something really serious, but he never replied (or never read also). This has really annoyed me.. I have a lot of suggestions, some are already stated here .. Links in the comments is really good and easy way to spam, just now I encountered a pretty unrelated nonsensical comment in Pushpinder Bhagga’s post of google searching. Voted down it. links should be visible as text and some trusted links should only be hyperlinked. This would need only a bit of coding, come on IPad admins do this..

Though you all seem to having admin powers that’s really cheesy..

Spam is really bad thing, but it’s inevitable also.. I mostly hate them on my blog, sometimes enjoy:)

may be the admin is not earning any money from this site. that’s why he is no more interested on IPad.

Anyways, whatever we suggest or discuss for the improvement of iPad, it will not work without the involvement of admins. so lets not waste time in these discussions.

The above posts from chetanw, pushpinderbagga, hindisongs are all good, but the user base of IP is probably too small to make it profitable I think.

If we had a lot more legitimate users like digg who post and make meaningful comments on stories, then advertising would also be more profitable for the admin of IP.

I think maybe if someone has suggestions to make this a profitable activity without filling it up with ads then there is a lot of scope for improvement..

well said all! If some of you take time to mark down some stories as spam and persistent spammers can have their IP address blocked that will help!
Another thing is there is no captcha before submitting stories? Maybe that would help as well!

I don’t agree with pushpinder idea of making indianpad invite only. Making indianpad an invite only site will stop spammers?? are you sure invite only site does not have spammers?? don’t allow new users to post comment or use some CAPTCHA system for the comment section to control the spam

It should be like this
users with karma less than 8 cannot post comments
users with karma less than 9 can post comments but cannot post links in their comments
users with karma more than 9 can post links in their comments

It will be really hard for IndianPad to grow if it is invite only.

Just disable links for newbies and we are good to go. Spamming without links is rare.

I have been making an effort to mark spam stories since a long time like most of you guys, but I really hope that the Admin of IP will participate in this effort.

I do think though that making the site invite only would really limit it’s growth. We come to this site to read news, but also to interact with other people, not just the ones we know..

Captcha is surely an effective system – wonder if the admin could implement it for signups as well as for making a post and a comment as well..
