Actually Indianpad was very good ages ago and now its more of an celeb-o-holic maniac’s and cross voters paradise who have taken control of it to promote and generate traffic to their own portal. Despite the repeated complaints Indianpad doesn’t care as its evident even till date as the frontpage shows it all.

I really feel Indianpad’s platform is way advanced then most of the Indian social sites and all it requires is more quality content and control that hit the frontpage.

but what i thought was a structure redesign like digg

where u can have 100+ popular stories in a day but only those who have some ppl having a discussion about do really make the front page and stay there

the solution is not by avoiding bad links on front page but having more and more stories and more and more idividual voting and the best could be archived like digg does

Indian social bookmarking sites are all copy cats no real innovation. IndianPad is the most innovative so we should be thankful for that.

i never said tht it is the most original site of the world , i said it was way ahead of others when it started but has failed to evolve like many others have done and for some reason even humsurfer is being shown ahead of IP on alexa

The Best way to stop useless stories hitting the main page is to increase the karma of the story… its 72 I guess… now … I should be increased to 100 …
so then even if there is cross voting to fetch the story a karma of 80 by high end users… Delhi fir bhi door hai bhai…

all Indianpad needs to do is to ban couple of users who are responsible for wreaking all the havoc

Why i don’t feel like opening Indianpad Today (FYI – I Couldn’t live without it 6 months back)

• I know there will be no useful discussions/comments
• I know the story i post will eventually reach the front page – That sucks because it’s just weird and pleasing-voting by GOE (group of 11)
• Cool veteran users have gone away.
• My Connection is too slow or is it Indianpad that takes forever to load?

I never wanted to write these comments because i love the site too much but i feel my interest is decreasing and it’s now or never to turn the lights on…

I think if I start fighting again, may be we can get IRP (Internet Rating Points) rise up

Very interesting discussion here. One of the few that you see sometimes.

In my opinion, the biggest killer on IP is the lack of the Admin to actually do anything quickly. We all know that the IP Admin prefers to keep behind the scenes, but I’d like to have someone who can DO something – and quickly.

All of the problems you have mentioned above are basically tied to Admin Apathy. Time and again, despite so many suggestions/comments/offers of help, the IP Admin has hardly changed much. In the last year, we’ve seen cross-voting, a**-lick voting, crappy stories hit the front page, cartel, cross-voters become admins and a lot more.

And through all of this, the Admin still prefers to keep his/her head in the sand and hope that the problem will just go away.

Nothing has changed on IP – nothing ever will – unless the Admin wakes up.

I did post the earlier comment out of frustration. However, I haven’t given up on IP as yet. So, here is a constructive comment that details areas where the site can be improved (and none of them are new):

1. Choosing mods – Not everyone who gets 14.00+ karma should be a moderator
2. Negative Voters Identification – Point out who has voted down a story/comment
3. Weighted Karma – If a user keeps on voting for another user, the karma jump of the story reduces
4. Diversity-based karma reduction – User gets karma depending on the variety of sites posted
5. Ability to ban users who haven’t submitted a story – Self-explanatory
6. Temporary User Bans – Like a user ban facility – only it’s temporary

we feel like shit…I felt like that and it led to me starting my own blog as all the content I posted got no response from here what so ever…it was mostly lost in the celeb rubbish, some stories I post are even first time for sites like digg…but no body cares…or appreciate…although the response is not great I am satisfied I have all my stories under my website now…

when I started with my plus blog, I was the only one mostly posting movies and music using working links with no ads on the blogs, now IP is full of rubbish with one topic having at least 25 posts when it comes to movies, music and celbs…maybe I mostly spoke gibberish but I would like to see IP be at the top of all social bookmarking websites…

and NiteshBasin, thanks for posting this wonderful post…and bringing out such wonderful comments, goes to show its not only the users with high Karma that care genuinely about Indianpad….

Several times, I did think about doing this, No, really, I did want to. However, I stopped myself because it is not fair. Besides, banning the user only means that they return with a new identity (and a grudge).

The ban has two sides.

I always refer a situation from my personal experiences. I own remixconcepts.blogspot.com, a hollywood free movies site, and to promote my blog I submitted my links regularly on SideReel.com got away with a lot of stuff, even made pages of movies already made and featured.

Then I found another site nabolister, I did something similar and got banned within 24 hours. After that I joined them with a new identity and never did I ever did anything wrong.

I put out both situations, as leaders it is up to you to decide. But if I was a leader/ or a moderator, I would consider following SideReel, because they make it so professional. professionally leave a messege at the User’s profile and ask him to not do wrong. And keep doing this, because this is the job of moderators and this is why they are made. So if you want to be profession, you may remove stories but never remove a user.

It is about seeing wat stuff makes it to front page and is it really worth it

Also remove the karma part bcoz there are few stories which take too long to get to front page and lose there value

like ishmeet’s death or nuclear deal or similar stories

If you have to moderate moderate wat comes to the first page

and make design more updation friendly because there are stale stories on IP whenever i come

yeah… this is the only difference here… either have a discussion and do nothing as is always done here… this post also… or just comment … and by that I mean comment as your own suggestion to improve or frickle about it or just say anything… then collect quality content from the comments and apply if possible and not use the blockquote to mark someone else’s comments down… taunt them or show off your little knowledge over things that are not required at the instant…

ria I hate to point out mistakes but do you even know what essence means. Because my riteous mind says that this post will always remain essence whether bad comments or good comments. This post was to trigger a discussion, if you don’t want a discussion over this then why did you vote. This post and similar posts to this will always remain essential because IndianPad improvement is need to be stressed upon and that is what we are doing here.

There is always a benefit of having conversation else you might also want try vbharat.com. Pretty new site but great user experience. They do have few quality links posted but site is more in lifehacks, productivity, career etc. then links relating to India.. Best thing is vbharat has history of regular and gradual feature updates. Last time I heard that they are working on personalized news aggregator as another segment of vbharat.com but it’s long time there is no news on that.

Appearance – We have evolved over time and make small changes every couple of weeks to improve the experience for our users. Now, some will find the design boring and bland but the main draw here is the content not the site or its design.

Content – In my opinion, this is the ‘biggest’ issue… The font page gets stale pretty quick but that is due to voting patterns more than anything else. We can put moderators in charge of pushing stories but then IPad will be the same as any other forum or blog.

Cross-Voting – We have been pursuing this diligently and already have many of the features pointed out by chetanw in play. This is one of the reasons new stories on the front page have slowed down over the last couple of weeks. Any users found pushing their stories with cross-votes are disabled and their sites are banned.

Republished Content – There are many stories being posted that just copy content off other sites and don’t even give any credit to the original sites. These sites will be promptly banned from now on.

I have a lot to say in this matter.. i havent been here becuase of many reaosns that devil listed..
I had a new year resolution the year, “IPadder of the Month” had been launched, it was becoming an Ipadder of the month once, and being in the top Ipadders of the year.
I was the top Ipadder in one of the daily rankings and also in top 5 for 5 months in row.
After 5 months, I had my chances very good, but then the site became very boring, no replies on comments, or discussions tht mattered.
no sensible discussions with “veterans” around.. avaksi, devil, munnacircuit, gd007, beachbong, milvartan, indianboy, krypton, a little phoren touch with evievontess(she came later btw)..etc…
I remenber being called- the young revolution (or something) by beachbong-Now I’m 2 years older- Indianpad HAS changed a lot, for the good.. but moreover for the BAD.

I loved blockquoting texts and using lot of direct html..(i wanted to qoute lot of thing from above) I dont feel like putting too much effort now.. not much time too, maybe when I start my college next fall.

I think i need to finally rebuke my long sustained stand on moderators, we should start having them. maybe 20 or so so that atleast one moderator is online at a time.
better if IndianPad starts recruiting moderators than just making them with karma. just contact a tech solution company to moderate the site for spam.. the idea is weird but needs a lot of planning and right decisions and recruits before materialising.

the republish content kills me too. because blogs simply copy and paste content on their sites and get the benefit of a site like i-pad.

I totally accept the fact that you want to keep your identity a secret. However, believe me, with the pace that the site is moving at – you need some partners to help you improve the site. It could be a council with you as the chair.
