I have loads of them after I see the quality of content coming up on the front page…(Typical yahoo telegraph rediff sites stuff…

Excuse me but I think that IndianPad is becoming a bore… even if you submit good content … it gets neglected on the take of stories like e.g. “AFC Challenge Cup final shifted from Hyderabad” (currently in the upcoming stories list.. will hit front page in about 4-5 hours)... lol… tell me how many who voted… were following that tournament of exactly know what is AFC’s full form even….

I think that getting 30 users a day from IndianPad is not worthy of putting up time here. Digg Stumble and Humsurfer are better.

I am not old as the great users (!) of indianpad , but I can only say that now a days, I feel no such interests in Indianpad . There is no fun left with this social networking site . A social networking site creates healthy interaction between users, and in Indianpad topmost users have no respect for others. Every new posting creates an argument and bad languages . Indianpad is an unsocial network in my view .

Already readership is falling and soon like other indian bookmarking sites bloggers will come only to the submit page, submit and leave. Sure this keeps Alexa levels high but the purpose of indianpad is already lost.

Its very very true. But who is responsible for this ? I think admin himself and few top users are responsible.

I think the same it seems some how the big player are riding on their past laurels, i dont know abt story which shud be in top page , but there are surely story submitted by spence_911 which are just totally utter crap, just two pics submitted not even a description gives him a top page entry, with a simple pic of child with bird , a scan of news paper about 15 th august, these are for sure not good enough to be on top page for pics section let alone home page of Indian pad, alas bad days have come,

I think it is high time for the all the top contributors of IndianPad to review all the stories equally and promote them based on the quality.

We can’t keep complaining about Indianpad forever. Lets take some steps to make this community more enjoyable to everyone.

Nice story but I have some issues with what other users have said so far.

First, I would like to address simjha’s concern – Dear Sir, this is your FIRST story so its a bit early to complain about content when you haven’t even posted anything yourself! There are very few users here who are dedicated enough to keep posting stories over the last 4-5 years. You named some users and most of them have been around IPad for a long time.

I agree that IPad gives some advantages to senior users but most users can get into the top ranks pretty quickly. for e.g kaalkaal recently came to IPad but he is already one of the prominent voices on IPad.

Also, many users who complained above only post from their own blogs so its a bit disingenuous for them to complain about their stories. for e.g. pushpinder complained about 5 stories but all 5 stories cited by him are from his own blog! Also, if pushpinder likes humsurfer, etc. so much then he should go there…

I dont want to pick on any individual users but the content on IPad has considerably improved over the last month. I would love to see more content from desi blogs here but most bloggers on IPad only post from their own blogs so that may take some time…

Somehow people like bollymms, avaksi indicate the clear slant in indianpad philosophy… “You’re new… who the hell are you to say anything… we’ve been around for years so our stories should get promoted.. what we say is correct…”.

Apparently the only criteria going on indianpad – whether its stories that make it to the front page, or a users opinion is respected is how long they’ve been around. Obviously, content & fairness have no meaning.

Old users are quick to pounce on a bad description, duplicate link and other meaningless detail to dig a user down into the ground but never vote for a good post by someone outside the gang.

But the main point really is how can all the stories that come on the front pages come from a handful of users??? Even if some of them are clearly rubbish.

I mean there are thousands of people posting everyday… most bad – sure – but many really unique nice and new blogs that genuine voters would vote for. But whats in the ‘upcoming stories’ on the right (right now also!) and you can close your eyes and guess most are from spencer, tollywoodbollywood and goutami (mature section)... and possibly a few others that Ive missed.

The reasons are obvious:
1. Groups that vote and promote each other – there’s some sort of pact between some members
2. Fake voting (let me repeat its extremely easy and people who consistently get to the frontpage every day practice it)
3. Superusers/admins who think they are God and promote stories themselves basis factors like political correctness, balanced view of the front page and of course age of submitting member. As if they were editors in a newspaper. Which is fine if that is the objective of ipad instead of a user community based website like digg.

What’s obviously missing here is community. And its missing because it is not encouraged. And those who indulge in the above are allowed to do so.

Only admin can fix any of this. If he cares about this website.

I do not blame them coz i m one of them but i agree with simjha tht exposure for new users is not tht great but this is the only place which will guide you to submit stories in a better way

As you mentioned about digg , it has a feature called shout and another feature called friends

As iPad has to grow the structure a story is promoted to front page has to be evolved and it has to enhance user experience for new users

But simjha this is something u will nvr find at digg, reddit etc.

I think you need to understand for any site like Ipad, digg, reddit etc there will always be a group of people who will have a group of people who vote for stories heard of top diggers/powerdiggers

Here top users are not gods but they know how to play the game in right spirit and if they guide you to right way to make it to the front page and not oblivious

@Simjha – Have a closer look to the front page.

there are very few active users here at most 20-30 hence there is a trust/confidence in each others contibuting quality like spencer, tolly, etc always post quality links hence have good faith in active users

Other users like me and bagga bhai rely on eyectaching or emotionally moving stories

But at the end of day we have also checked spam coming to the front page as it was prevalant 3-4 months back

If you think the story is lame then vote it down

you will get power when you become regular at ipadding
Just like someone has marked this story as lame

You have to be a regular user at any site to understand why and how it functions

These are stories posted by me after 2 weeks of me joining IP.

You can clearly see most of my stories got published. You can’t blame other users when you havnt even tried posting anything here, unless you are one of the TOP user having Fake Account. ( which i strongly believe you are)

My point here is more you are active more are your chances of getting your stories published. So start posting and then decide. Don’t just assume things.

Thanks for airing your concerns. However, it isn’t fair that the rest of IP can’t even reply and explain their stand about the concerns you’ve raised. If someone says something, you come out and refuse to listen saying that they’re an old user and hence, biased.

Concern #1 – You are very new (1 story, 8 votes), so how could you complain about your stories not getting recognized? Unless of course, you have another id here already – in which case you’re already violating most of your own rules.

Concern #2 – Cross-voting – This is a well known concern and mods and admins worked hard to resolve it. Cross-voting no longer pays off on IP and cross-voters are carefully monitored.

Concern #3 – Stats – some users have gold fingers. True – it may also help to remember that their experience here has taught them which stories will interest the people here. If you look carefully, not ALL of their stories make it to the front page.

Concern #4 – Gradually new users who submit stories are realizing it is completely futile because they will never make it anywhere. This is because the more ‘powerful’ users & groups control which stories make it to the top and not the community. Completely untrue. New users do get their due and over a period of one year, several new users have come to the top and are frequently heard. I also must add that thanks to these new users, the discussions and debates are also more animated. Take a bow, kaalakaal, pushpinderbagga, niteshbhasin and the rest of you.

Concern #5 – Visitors are already realizing that the content is completely controlled and managed – some promoted by bloggers for their own blogs, others promoted to the front page because it seems politically correct stories for that time. And why is it wrong to post from one’s blog or to post politically correct stories? If not these, then what should people post, in your opinion? It’s all fake and not really an inclusive mechanism – possibly because no one votes anymore – because no one cares. Well, if that were true, why would most stories get so many votes over time?

Concern #6 – There are obvious and easy ways to manipulate voting on ipad – I wont describe them here because then everyone might start attempting them. And also probably because they did not work with the id you normally use. Also, because most of them are now well known and being carefully tracked.

Concern #7 – Already readership is falling – Admin, do something How do you know this is true? Is there some statistic to confirm? Also, since you’ve learnt so much after one post, how about some constructive suggestions?

And people, this is what newcomers think about us, so perhaps we should raise our standards a little bit and read carefully before we vote

@chetan, I completely agree the way you have answered simjha’s concerns. Even I used to wonder how spencer, Tolly and other old users get so many stories published. But, over time, I have seen that they have quality stuff and they also know the pulse of Indianpad’s audience.

Dear simjha, had you spent this much time on couple of quality posts, I’m sure they would have hit the homepage and you would not be complaining. BTW, welcome to IP.

But, over time, I have seen that they have quality stuff and they also know the pulse of Indianpad’s audience.

So yes whatever simjha said happens, in fact when i look at who has submitted and if it is chetanw, avaksi, tollywood, or any other considered leader, that is all to convince me to click on the story and if I like it vote it. But again they deserve it, because they have made such good reputation.

I would request you to have some patience and your stories too would get published. So, my dear friend just cheer up and keep posting.

Well, apart from the issues raised by the poster.. I think IndianPaid should seriously look into stopping those spammers who are posting porn stuff and all.

The mods are banning such users as soon as they see their post. I would request you to vote accordingly so that the post catches the mods attention and is banned soon. In case the mods are not online, you might want to PM the story link to any one of the mods.

Like ck_rish pointed out, I disagree too. I never voted madly and I don’t – to this day.

Just as an example of how views differ (nothing more):

I agree that Singh is Kinng doesn’t even come close to The Dark Knight and I’m not sure which poster you are talking about but I did vote on one Singh is Kinng parody poster called “The real Singh is Kinng” starring Manmohan Singh (which I think spencer911 posted) – but that was more because I found it ticklingly funny.

But again they deserve it, because they have made such good reputation.

I would just like to say that you have to be smart when to submit stories in order to see them get published. Publish them when most users are online so that you have better chances of getting votes. This is an indian site so submit according to the indian time.

Secondly, publish in the right criteria to get most votes.

Finally, stop complaining because that won’t get you anywhere (not saying to anyone here). Just keep posting and be a part of the community. I have submitted so many nice stories on Digg and none of them have gotten popular. Bookmarking sites don’t work the way YOU want them to work, they work the way the COMMUNITY wants them to work.

Sometimes, people like the story but still don’t vote and there are other times when they don’t like the stories but they still vote. Sometimes it is all about luck.

you need to have around 100-200 friends who you can shout your story to so tht they can see

ipad also needs such a feature and a bury/lame feature for everyone so tht spam does not make it to the front page
