He has been engaged in tough negotiations with Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh [Images] over striking a near-respectable alliance for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh [Images], which is seeking to retain the nine seats it won in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.

In democracy, no one is hateable, somehow the distance of these two parties has developed many regional and caste based parties, which are dictating their terms even with undemocratic bargaining.
