    Looking for a way to differentiate among the ever-expanding
    niche of pocket projectors, researchers at the Fraunhofer
    Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering
    (<span class="caps">IOF</span>) of Germany are working on an
    <span class="caps">OLED</span> panel-based mini projector,
    using static optical systems and not the usual reflective
    system à la <span class="caps">DLP</span>. Currently being
    shown at <span class="caps">SID</span> Display Week 2009, the
    decidedly green picture (seems to be the norm with <span class=
    "caps">OLED</span> prototypes these days) forms via a 6-inch
    <span class="caps">VGA</span> screen from 30 to 50 centimeters
    away, and the machine itself takes up just about ten cubic
    centimeters of space.

    experience of the Apple iPhone, from hardware to native
    software to the 100,000 applications created for it, the world
    hasn’t seen it yet. That’s the conclusion we can safely make
    after early reviews of the Google Android operating
    system-based Motorola Droid, which Verizon Wireless will begin
    shipping Nov. 6 for $199 with a two-year contract after a $100
    rebate. Analysts from Gartner and Forrester Research on why the
    Droid is nice, but not iPhone slayer.

    Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson Wednesday launched three new
    smartphones in the Indian market, priced between Rs.16,950 and
    Rs.35,950.

<p>
    The phones, “Satio”, “Aino” and “Yari”, will set the trend for
    the new age smart phones, said Anil Sethi, president of Sony
    Ericsson Mobile India.
</p>
<p>
    He said the company would focus on the smartphone category for
    the next two-three years to boost sales.

    The Indian subsidiary of South Korean consumer durable major
    Samsung is betting big on touch-screen mobile phones, targeting
    a 20 percent value share in the domestic handset market this
    year.

    “We expect our touch-screen models to contribute around 20
    percent of our total sales this year. The overall market for
    touch-screen handsets this year is expected to be around two
    million handsets, up from 800,000 units in 2008,” Asim Warsi,
    general manager (marketing), told reporters after launching the
    new touch-screen handset named Samsung Corby.
