There could be a huge gift in store for Narendra Modi as he
completes seven years in office as Gujarat chief minister on
Tuesday. The a
ir is thick with anticipation as top Tata Motors honchos flew
down from Mumbai late on Monday evening to take one final look
at the site near Sanand, 25 kms from the western fringes of
Ahmedabad, which has been identified for relocation of the Nano
plant. Tata chief Ratan Tata is also expected to arrive on
Tuesday.

Sources said the decks have been cleared for transfer of 1,000
acres of land to the Tatas. Modi’s council of ministers will
meet at 10 am before the Tata team arrives. The land which the
Tatas have to finally select is located within a 2200-acre
campus owned by the Anand Agriculture University which serves
as a cattle and seed farm.

A baggage loader at the Delhi airport nearly reached Pune when
the doors of the Kingfisher Red flight closed and the plane
started moving while he was still inside. The ground staff
employee was reportedly helping a sick passenger with his cabin
baggage. Baggage loaders usually put registered luggage inside
the cargo hold area of the plane and do not enter the aircraft.

The incident occurred on Monday at 10 am when the Kingfisher
Red flight IT-3342 began the taxiing process for Pune. It had
154 passengers onboard. “The security staff at the step ladder
asked him to assist the passenger in carrying the baggage from
boarding gate to aircraft and come back quickly,” said an
airline source, requesting anonymity. As the passenger was not
well, the loader was further asked to arrange the hand baggage
inside the overhead bin. Meanwhile, the pilot got permission to
taxi and the doors were closed. “The plane had started moving
as it was being pushed back from the parking bay. At this the
loader, who was arranging the baggage panicked and alerted the
cabin crew,” the source said. The doors of the plane closed at
10 am. After the fiasco, the plane doors were closed again at
10.15 am and it again started the taxiing process at 10.20 am.

“Before the aircraft doors are closed, the cabin crew does a
headcount and fills a sheet. It is strange how they missed the
loader who was inside the plane,” the source said. “The
incident shows the cabin crew and also the duty manager took
the whole process very casually,” he said.

As a part of its cost cutting steps, national carrier Air India
has decided not to entertain requests for upgrading passengers
to First Class or allow excess baggage for free. The decisions
were taken at a recent meeting to ensure financial discipline
in the company, airline sources said. The move came in the wake
of huge losses being suffered by the national carrier as well
as other Indian airlines, which have already initiated similar
steps. Being a state-owned entity, Air India used to get a
large number of requests from passengers, including politicians
and bureaucrats.

From now on, the entitlement for travel on the First Class,
even for the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the airline, and
all levels of other executives, stand withdrawn, sources said.
These top executives would now be allowed to travel only on the
Business Class, while the First Class would be meant solely for
those travelling on paid tickets. A similar initiative has been
taken in regard to requests for allowing excess baggage free of
charge, as part of the overall corporate policy to enhance
revenue.

Sources said these specific moves, along with several other
major initiatives to reduce costs, have brought about some
“financial discipline” in the company.

The fanatical Hindu mobs have struck in the Capital. And the

All words are good words. Some, however, are overused without
adding value to what you write. As a result, they reduce the
readers’ interest, make text seem redundant, and cause the
writer to appear amateurish.

We have created a list of 10 overused words, based on the
documents we have edited over the last 5 years. We don’t
recommend that you remove these words from your writing.
Instead, we recommend that you become aware of how often you
use them and that you revise your documents to limit their use.

1. There
When writers are not sure about the subjects of their
sentences, they will often use this word as the subject. This
results in weak writing. (For advice on correcting this

Example: “There was no one at home.” This can be revised as “No

A seven-year-old boy has been filmed going on the rampage at a
popular zoo in Australia, killing rare reptiles and feeding
live ones to a crocodile.

Footage from the security cameras at Alice Springs Reptile
Centre caught the child smiling as he killed a total of 13
animals.

During his 30-minute spree, he was seen hurling the animals
over the security fence into the crocodile enclosure.

Zoo officials described the boy’s actions as “unbelievable”

The attack happened on Wednesday morning after the boy entered
the zoo by jumping over the security fence and evading sensor
alarms.

Over the next half hour, he bludgeoned some of the animals to
death with stones and hurled others over the two fences
surrounding the crocodile enclosure.

At one point, he tried scaling the outer enclosure himself to
get to “Terry”, the 11ft (3.3m) saltwater crocodile.

A turtle, four Western blue-tongued lizards, two bearded
dragons, two thorny devil lizards and the zoo’s 20-year-old
goanna were among those killed.

OBCs coming under creamy layer are denied the benefits of
reservation and one of the criteria of defining the creamy
layer is the annual income. Earlier those who earned more than
Rs 2.5 lakh per annum were included in the creamy layer. But
the Central Government on Friday decided to increase the income
limit to Rs 4.5 lakh bringing in more people in the quota hold.
The move is seen as a sop to the OBCs ahead of the election

Tata Motors on Friday announced it was pulling out its Nano
small car project from West Bengal’s Singur and blamed the
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, which spearheaded the
protests against the factory, for the ‘painful’ decision.
Briefing news persons after a 90-minute meeting with state
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the state
secretariat, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata said: “We have
arrived at the painful decision mainly for the well-being of
our employees and for the safety of contractors.”

Coming down heavily on Banerjee, Tata wondered about the source
of funds for the prolonged agitation. “I would not like to
respond (whether the competitors played a role). But it has
made us wonder where some of the funds for agitation and the
logistics has come from. I had said earlier that if somebody
holds a trigger to my face, he will have to take the decision
whether or not to pull the trigger, because I will not move
away. I must say Ms Banerjee has pulled the trigger. This
decision has been prompted because we do not see any change on
the horizon,” Tata said. “Throughout the two years we have
faced enormous disruption and assault and intimidation of some
of the employees.”

Laying the responsibility for Singur fiasco completely at
Banerjee’s doorstep, Tata said: “What could we have done when
Ms Banerjee says ‘I won’t allow a single Nano to roll out’? How
do we go on with production when Ms Banerjee publicly says
people of West Bengal do not want us?” Tata gave details of the
chain of events that led to the decision and said: “When I
addressed the media last time, I had hoped some understanding
will be arrived at with the protesters. But shortly thereafter
the agitation increased. The highway (near the Nano plant) was
barricaded.” He, was, however, full of praise for the state’s
Left Front government. “These two years that we have worked, we
are appreciative of the support the government gave us, the
facilities the government provided. The agitation by the
opposition is the sole reason for the decision.”

A British woman was left dumfounded when she was hit with a 150
pound fine for taking too long to eat at fast food giant
KFC. A regular at KFC, Natalie Jackson had ordered a huge family

and large cokes. Jackson and a pal took an hour to scoff the
5,456-calorie feast.

Days later Jackson was fined for breaking KFC’s 75-minute car
parking limit. “It’s disgusting. I spend a lot of money in
there. Now I’m never going back,” The Sun quoted Jackson, as
saying. “It didn’t feel like I was in there all that long. We
were hungry,” Jackson added.

Following the case, KFC has said that
restaurant parking was contracted to private firm Civil

‘Cigarette in my hand, I felt like a man.’ This notion is now
going to change forever, because on October 2, Health Minister
Anbumani Ramadoss enforced a complete ban on smoking in public
places. Now one could end up getting fined for smoking in
airports, railway stations, cinema halls and even office
spaces.

But the Government’s diktat has the nation split down the
middle on whether smoking should be banned in public or not.

Is a ban on smoking injurious to personal freedom? That was the
question raised on CNN-IBN show Face
the Nation.

On the panel of experts to debate the issue were actor Moon
Moon Sen, social activist and ad guru Alyque Padamsee and
Editor-in-Chief of The Pioneer Chandan Mitra.

Wall Street will never forget Monday, September 29, when the
lords of high finance were rudely reminded that it isn’t easy
to get away with imprudent investments, no matter which Ivy
League degree they possess.

In a major setback to not only the Bush administration, but
also to global markets, the US House of Representatives on
Monday rejected the $700 billion emergency rescue package to
bailout bankrupt American financial institutions. The House
voted against the package 228 to 205.

The bailout plan was nixed not only because the figure of the
financial assistance — $700 billion — was almost pulled out of
thin air without solid basis, but also because the American
taxpayer was supposed to fund it. The anger that bubbled over
and poured onto the streets in the form of protests and
demonstrations across the United States was one of the main
reasons why the plan was vetoed.

The consequences were instant. The benchmark Dow Jones
Industrial Average fell by a whopping 777.68 points, the
highest ever in American history, to touch 10,365.45. The
Nasdaq fell by 199.61 points to settle at 1,983.73.

India’s landmark nuclear trade agreement with the United States
should open the way for a similar deal for Pakistan, Pakistan’s
prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday. The US
Congress approved the deal late on Wednesday ending a
three-decade ban on US nuclear trade with India, unleashing
billions of dollars of investment and drawing the world’s
biggest democracy closer to the West. Critics say the deal does
grave damage to global efforts to contain the spread of nuclear
weapons, by letting India import nuclear fuel and technology
even though it has tested nuclear weapons and never signed the
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In nuclear-armed Pakistan, Prime Minister Gilani said the deal
should not be seen as a cause for concern. “You don’t have to
be worried about it,” Gilani said in his home town of Multan
when asked about the deal. “Pakistan will now be justified to
also make a demand for a similar deal as we don’t want
discrimination,” Gilani said. “Pakistan will also now make
efforts for a civil nuclear (deal) and they will have to
accommodate us,” he added.

Love most certainly wasn’t blind for a man who was so obsessed
with tech websites that he ordered custom-made window shutters
and then watched his wife walk out of the door. Curtain and
blinds website, Nets2Go.co.uk recounts the heart-rending story
of customer Mr Schofield, who rang the company with specific
requirements for wooden blinds, each printed with a different
web-related logo.

Mr Schofield chose the logos of news aggregator Digg.com,
Facebook, YouTube and Firefox, among others, all of which were
faithfully printed as requested. Mr Schofield was apparently
delighted with the blinds – but his happiness was regrettably
short lived after his wife took umbrage to his taste in
interior decor.

“It was coming anyway,” Mr Schofield told Nets2Go, putting a
commendably brave face on. “My design choice for the blinds was
pretty much the nail in the coffin.”

“She doesn’t understand the intense geek in me. And anyway, the
only one she’d even heard of was YouTube”.

No one could pinpoint the origin of the rumour but sources said

Meanwhile, Kalpana Morpariya of ICICI
