The words of Eric Feng~ I have loved drawing and making sketches since I was little. At first I thought I simply liked to draw. Then I realized that it’s not that simple. Drawing is not just a tool to express my creativity; it has become an addiction. Mysteriously, it pulls me into a different space inside my body. I can’t really put my finger on the exact location of that space. It’s somewhere in the left side underneath my heart. I can feel the pulsation of that space almost in sync with my heartbeat. To my astonishment, I met another me in that mysterious space. That “me” is only about five or six years old. He looks like he’s never had a haircut. To be more precise, his whole body is covered with hair. He skips and jumps when he walks. He reminds me of a monkey. Yes, he is just like a wild monkey. As we have to share the same name, we decide that I will use Eric, my first name, and he can use Feng, my last name. Somehow a word with four letters is still too cumbersome for him, so he just asks me to call him F. (more…)

Jacob Joseph launched Mutiny as a personal blog some five years ago but it soon acquired the shape of a community blog with dozens of contributors (they call themselves mutineers) who all have day-jobs but still contribute religiously to Mutiny. Now what this team has done is even more interesting – they have launched a print magazine based on their blog. This is probably the first blog that is available for reading both inside news-readers and on news-stands. The motivation for launching a blog as a print magazine was simple – they want to reach more people as only a minuscule minority is reading blogs online at least in India.

Gmail Goggles : No More Drunk Emailing on Friday Nights

Gmail Labs today released an interesting feature to prevent you from sending mails that may you may regret later. It does so by asking you to confirm whether you really want to send that email.

So if you’re writing a mail late on a Friday night, when you may not be as sober as you would like yourself to be, you can get GMail to ask you a few math problems before the message leave your Gmail outbox.

You can enable this via the “Labs” tab on the Gmail “Settings” page. By default, the Mail Goggles feature of Gmail become active late night on the weekend, but you can set it to other times as well from Settings –> General.

FoxReplace is a nice little Firefox add-on that you may use to substitute certain words on web pages with something else. It’s as simple as instructing the browser to replace all instances of word “xxx” with “yyy” like in Notepad.

And in case you like to completely hide a word from appearing on web pages, just use a blank instead of specifying a replacement string.

To understand the usage, let’s take this real-world example : Comments written on Digg and YouTube can sometimes leave a normal person depressed because of their language but here’s how FoxReplace can help you.

Astronomers have discovered a bizarre celestial object that emitted 40 flashes of light before disappearing again.

Described as a hibernating stellar magnet, this weird object initially misled its discoverers showing up as a gamma-ray burst, suggesting the death of a star in a distant part of the universe.

After the initial gamma-ray pulse, there was a three-day active phase during which 40 visible-light flares were observed, followed by a brief near-infrared flaring episode 11 days later, recorded by ESO’s Very Large Telescope. Then the source became dormant again.

Scientists have discovered a 650-million-year-old former underwater reef 10 times taller than the Great Barrier Reef. Fossils found belong to the oldest primitive animals ever found on earth. Sunstroke author Dr David Kagan marvels on the discovery in Doomwatch Legacy.

Explaining how a towering range of hills could have once been under an ocean, Mr Giddings said that when Australia was part of a huge continent more than 600 million years ago ‘the eastern part of Australia, from the Flinders Ranges through to the current eastern seaboard, was still buried under the ocean.’
Over hundreds of millions of years, tectonic forces upturned the reef, and weathering eventually exposed a large slice of it at the surface.
‘If the fossils we’ve found are confirmed as multi-cellular animals, it would mean primitive animals evolved tens of millions of years earlier than thought,’ said Mr Giddings.
