A few days ago, the first iPhone threat spotted in the wild made the tour of the virtual world, as security companies warned the owners of the Apple device that a fake firmware update might be more dangerous than they had expected. But before getting into today’s piece of news, let’s do some recap.
As you may have heard, a fake and malicious iPhone firmware
update was rolled out on the web, insisting that people’s
devices should be updated as soon as possible. Although some
iPhone owners may get really scared, it’s not the case. And
this because the threat isn’t really dangerous for your gadget.
The only thing it does is “taking up 90K of the unit’s memory”,
according to Trend Micro, and overwrite some files. This
obviously causes serious problems for the gadget, because
uninstalling the firmware automatically removes other programs,
such as Erica’s Utilities, OpenSSH, Launcher, and Doom.
Getting back to today’s piece of news, here’s something really shocking (or not, if you’re one of those guys addicted to computer infections): the iPhone threat was built by an 11-year-old kid!
