No widget but anonymous votes many.

Odd… I dunno.. Guess maybe some one thinks its ok to only post from a few sites then, and my comments and “spam votes” were just crazy me thinking it was wrong to only do that…

I guess I can do the same then. I have a few sites i like far more then others.

@shyan – If you give numerous negative votes to stories that are voted up by other users with high karma then you lose karma and the votes go away. There was a post about this some time ago…

Then people need to start checking out stuff before they post or vote for now on. WAY to many spammers on here now. REALLY discouraging. I use to find some really cool stuff in the latest section, now its like its a “blog spam fest”....

We really need a “flag as spammer” button on peoples profiles to avoid all that. Don’t you agree?

Also, this whole “karma thing” is starting to mess up the site. I think its time we re-evaluated how it works.

One of the factors that should count is the ratio of “Number of stories submitted” to the “Number of stories that make it to the front page”. For example, look at the stats I see for one user:

total links : 279 published links : 251

Meaning that the user has made 279 submissions of which 251 made it to the front page – amazing, wouldn’t you say? I think this user is using several logins to promote their own stories.

Currently, one of the easiest ways to build karma is to go on posting any and everything you find. Once the above factor makes it in, even if you post 1000 crap stories, it won’t help – rather your karma will start to go down because not even one made it up.

You don’t get high karma points by just posting 1000 crap stories, just take a look at how many users have more than 10 karma points

Im about to just call it quits even caring anymore. Its nothing more then spamfest now. And apparently no one really cares? So I guess IndianPad was nice before the spammers and hate filled morons started showing up.

spence… i had no clue… i think your exactly right!! I never even thought of the Ipadder of the month as a competition, more of a “added incentive to stay active”... To be honest, I think i’ve checked my overall stats like 10 times since I’ve been here..lol But I think your 100% right…

Dont look at me. I was with Devil regarding scrapping of Ipadder of year competition, but since everybody wanted it so m living to it and I have sudrafied in this month.

BTW, I’m sure the best stories do come up on the homepage no matter how many stories we post. So? Spam is again part of any Social Web 2.0 system, We got to live with it and for sure we are much much better off compared to most of other systems. I still feel Duplicate accounts have also contributed to all the mess. I was against it and was one way helping the spam come on the homepage, but when you cant beat it – Join it. Guess thats what made people notice it.

You got it perfectly right spencer. That’s the root cause of all these useless/duplicate stories getting “valueable” votes and making it to the homepage. Get rid-off this award and everything will fall into its place

Its easy for us to say get rid of the award but the top three users have worked really hard and deserve the award, if there is one thing that needs to be get rid of is ‘stupid blind voting’

I think spencer hit it on the head again. The whole “anonymous” voting thing shouldn’t even play a part in the voting any more. IndianPad’s gotten to big. That would just give people more reason to actually sign up and not just come here to either vote and go… or vote for friends stuff with out ever signing up.. Could be happening all the time.

I also think there should be some thing to stop this “proxy” stuff I was reading about yesterday. I don’t know if i’m 100% but it seems like these are easy ways for people to abuse the anonymous system, and/or the actual members using them? Possibility?

But yeah, after this year, either drop the ipadder thing, or have WAY more stuff you need to do to apply…

Kharcha-paani – Literally it means ‘expense-water’ and is an idiom for “stipend, pocket-money, bribe or (small) payment”. In Mumbai it may also refer to beating up somebody. Here, I referred to “beating up”.

We are making some changes based on this and other posts.

First, anonymous voting is not a big problem as you need a large number of them to come on the first page and too many of them will certainly attract scrutiny from our bot. The bigger problem from our perspective is fake accounts!

Changes

• Users found forming groups or fake accounts to vote up their stories will be ‘banned’ without warning.
• Users posting adult stories in general sections will be ‘banned’ without warning.
• Anonymous votes now only carry 0.2 of karma. This means that you need over 350 anonymous votes for a story to be published.

Such Issues Signify One Thing for Sure – Indianpad is Rising
