Shailaja over at GigaOm seems to be implying that the country is jumping to 3G while skipping 2G in the process. This was discussed here yesterday.

However, I must clarify that India has had 2G and 2.5G networks for a while. Check the following links

• Reliance NetConnect (CDMA)
• Airtel (GSM)

Also, I would have thought that jumping to 4G would have been prudent as even 3G requires new cell tower hardware. And big metros certainly have a good apetite for these services if they are priced right…
