IndianPads Statement…

Over the last couple of months, the amount of spam and irrelevant links have sky-rocketed on IndianPad. One of the primary reasons for this is our high Google PageRank which has attracted a lot of spammers.
In most cases, our most frequent users who saw this spam could do nothing about it and consequently we have been fighting with one arm tied behind our backs. Well, not anymore!
Starting today we are allowing users with karma over 14 to have more granular control over what is on the site. To keeps things transparent, we will start publishing trends and more information about how this power is being utilized by the moderators.
A couple of things that the moderators will notice is the low level of control that they now posses and we are also adding moderation features on comments so that spammers who do not post stories can still be stopped.
Any questions? Please shoot them our way…

Best wishes to all moderators. It’s my personal opinion that you have to clarify first that which post will be marked as spam/lame/irrelevant. It may help other (new/ old) users. Then a Do and Don’t list and the terms of use of Indian pad.

Great effort – though it’s not enough to stop cross-voting, at least it’s a start

I do not know why have you put this post in here and voted is to make it appear on the home page. How many moderators are there? 10-15-20? this video may have been shared to them directly. What i have observed here is that only stories which moderators like ( or stories from their sites ) are promoted instantly. You see the home page and know there are a fix number of users posting and only there stories seem to have the right of being placed on the home page.

Many people here are talking about cross voting. See the stories appearing on the home page, moderators give votes to each other’s posts. if you count for their # of cross votes, they deserve to be kicked out of the site instantly. its not going on a fair play here i think. Interesting stories go out of the focus and they die before they have enough karma to appear the home page.

It do not feel to be fair enough with the poor users of the site.

I agree on the video part – there are only 7 moderators on the whole site and this video is probably useful only for them.

I don’t agree on the cross-posting part. The top users may be a bit harsh sometimes but they understand what makes this site tick as they have spent over 2 years here. Most of the stories posted by the top 10-15 users are from reputed sites and they never promote their personal blogs like most other people. So I suggest that we give them a bit more credit for their hard work…

@nextgen,

Allow me to respond.

I do not know why have you put this post in here and voted is to make it appear on the home page. How many moderators are there? 10-15-20? this video may have been shared to them directly. What i have observed here is that only stories which moderators like ( or stories from their sites ) are promoted instantly. Just “putting this post in here” does not work. Just like you, the mod also needs to submit his/her story and it needs to get votes to get to the front page. If you look closely, most of the voters for this story are not mods. The “fixed” number of users whose stories are on the front page can be seen by checking their profiles and comparing the ratio of number of stories submitted versus number of stories published.

Moderators vote on each other’s stories?? Maybe they vote on some of each other’s stories not all. The mods do not cross vote blindly for each other. Check out votes received by mods submissions and you’ll notice that mods do not vote for all of each other’s stories. Cross voting happens when a user votes for another user’s story blindly and expects a vote in return. Mods do not do that. This is visible when some irrelevant stories make the front page.

Let’s get some examples of your “interesting” stories that did not get votes. I see that all you have submitted is two stories and neither of them has got votes from anyone else. So let us hear why is this the mods’ fault?

It do not feel to be fair enough with the poor users of the site.

Those are big words coming from a user who has joined barely three weeks ago.

Nextgen, I am crying blood because my Stories neither get votes nor comments these days…or at least not quick enough

Is your problem with the stories or with the poster?

I agree on the video part – there are only 7 moderators on the whole site and this video is probably useful only for them.

Beachbong, When the mods can see the features available to them, what is the point of sharing the video with them, it is the others who need to see the features that are available to the 14+ users so that there is transparency in the site. That was my only purpose

I agree with tolly on the voting part, its only the chosen ones who get all the votes these days, check the homepage for confirmation.
