Last December, Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2007, much earlier than was originally announced by the company. According to the documentation for the service pack, in addition to rolling together all the patches released since the product launch, the update also includes fixes for 455 issues throughout the entire Office suite.
As usual, Microsoft is providing at least 30 days notice before allowing the service pack to be distributed automatically. The company is releasing Service Pack 1 via Microsoft Update (for Vista and XP) on June 16, 2008. Not everyone will see the update on the first day though:
The availability will happen gradually and not everyone will see it at the same time. Think of the 16th as the earliest possible start of distribution and that no sooner than that date will SP1 start to become available to customers’ systems via this channel. This is necessary to ensure that our service infrastructure can meet the enormous demand for the service pack.
