Indianpad : Guidelines For New Users - A Ladder to Successful Padding!

About This Post:

First of all i would like to welcome all the new users to the Indianpad Family.

Indianpad User section is constantly increasing and with it New members are joining the Indianpad Family. Posts per Day have increased dramatically. But there are common mistakes which the new users are committing – unaware of which they have fallen a victim to me :) for those harsh vote downs. This post would make clear to the New Padders – The basic rules of posting a story which would check them falling a prey to my harsh vote downs :)

Basic Rules for Posting a Presentable/Good
Story

There Are Three parts in a Story – Heading, Body, Link. This Section would explain their Do’s and Dont’s in detail.

Heading

Do’s

  • Catchy heading – Believe me, 85% Stories that move to the front page have Good/Catchy Headings.
  • Keep it Short & Simple – A longer heading would be automatically edited(Indianpad Magic Scripts) to one which you may not favour.
  • Make Sure it Relates to the Story – Title should be such that it gives a definite idea of the story.

Dont’s

  • Capitals : “Never” write your headings in Full Capital Letters.Believe me ,No other thing in the world annoys Indianpaddits other than Full Capital Letters in the Heading. From the Screenshot below, you can get a clear idea what damage the Capitals Can Do.

  • Bad Heading – 1000’s of stories are posted here daily so a good title is important in attracting eyeballs. Whenever you link to some post, the heading bar shows automated long heading – Check Image below as an example. It’s Better to Cut and simplify the default heading to give a better look to your post. Otherwise a Lame Heading can be voted down for Bad Description as well.

  • Explicit Language : Avoid using Sexually Explicit/Abusive language in Your Title as well as the story. In case you are posting in Adult Section,You can kick off this Dont.

Body

The Body is the heart of your post. Body of your post will tell a reader weather to read or leave the complete story. Here are some do’s and dont’s

Do’s

  • Short/Neat/Clean – A Small neat and clean description of the story would make a user feel light while reading your story rather than reading a two page story in the body.
  • Catchy and Relevant With Heading – Make sure you post the most catchy part of the story which equally compliments the heading.

Dont’s

  • Bad Description – Believe me, I must have voted down a thousand stores for Bad Description. It is the worst and most committed mistake on indianpad. Be sure you give a little but descriptive enough paragraph in the body. The Screenshot below shows a perfect example of “Bad Description”. Try avoiding this mistake. Unfortunately, This is the Best Mistake of the Month on Indianpad!

  • Explicit Words – As explained earlier, Avoid using Abusive/Explicit words.

Link

  • Adult or Not? – Let us suppose you are posting a Non Adult Story but the Source is Adult in Nature, then your story needs to go in Adult Section
  • Is this Adult? – I follow “Mother/Sister Objection” Test. The stories which you feel would be objectionable to your mother/sister should go to Adult(strictness value may vary) – More info on this

These were some of the basic rules/tips for the Freshers. I hope you had fun reading the Ram Kahani. :)
Any Queries – I’ll love to Answer

Happy Padding!

Should we make it out a general rule that if a post has pictures or an embeddable video that you should be posting it in the description? I’ve been seeing a lot of stories – potentially good ones – getting voted down because the description – well isn’t bad, but isn’t enough – because it is often hard to explain great pictures – it’s just easier to post em… Also everyone seems to make this comment when it isn’t done in the description as if it’s what we expect anyway. I am just thinking if we make it a general rule of posting then newbies wouldn’t feel so confused to see their posts getting voted down rapidly because they weren’t posting up to our expectations – when we don’t really have them set out anywhere for them to know already… just a thought – curious to see what others think?

@tcs – Just post one picture in the description along with a line describing the set. If that is good then people will certainly vote you up…

I will tell you something I use,

Go to – http://imageshack.us/

If the image is on your computer just attach it like a email attachment, after the upload completes you will be given 6 links, use the suitable link but the one to use is the Thumbnail [if you have plenty] or code for website if you have one.

If you plan to do this regularly I suggest you get the tool bar which will help you upload images from within pages and in bulk. If you sign up all your images will be stored for ever.

Hope that was helpful…happy Ipadding

I use imagebot for uploading pics to imageshack. Check this post for formatting the input so that IndianPad caches the images internally as well – http://www.indianpad.com/story/51232#wholecomment23981
