The police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old mechanical engineer for stalking a woman distantly related to him. Ganeshan, employed with a private firm in Ambattur Industrial Estate, had become a nuisance for 23-year-old Krishnaveni (name changed) after she spurned his marriage proposal.

“Krishnaveni tolerated his actions for quite some time. She was employed as ground staff with an airlines company in the city. But she was forced to resign from her job following the harassment by Ganeshan,” a police official told The Times Of India. Ganeshan had taken Krishnaveni’s mobile number and continued to ask her to marry him. He regularly dropped in at her office. He also continuously called her on her mobile while she was on duty and harassed her. When she switched off her mobile, he called her office number and asked the operator to connect to her.No amount of persuasion from her, however, stopped Ganeshan and unable to bear his harassment, she resigned,” the official added.

However, Ganeshan did not stop there. He regularly went to her house and nagged her. “He exploited his proximity to her parents. He wanted her to marry him. Krishnaveni was against this and had told him that clearly. Unable to bear the torture, Krishnaveni on Wednesday lodged a complaint at the Adambakkam police station. “We registered a case and arrested Ganeshan on Wednesday,” the police official added.
