Indianpad is the #1 social bookmarking site

Over the last three days, I created the most comprehensive A-list of the Indian Blogosphere, based on Alexa rankings, and Indianpad figured right up there on #2, only behind Amit Agarwal’s Digital Inspiration.

The only difference – DI makes tons of money while IndianPad seems to be bleeding money (esp. since they removed all ads)...

Oops, before I forget! Gyaan Guru, Thanks for all the hard work!

That’s right. But I really think that IP should not have done that.

After all, I consider it fair, if IP makes a fair bit of money, especially with the huge userbase that it commands now.

We wouldn’t want to lose IP if it had to go down just because the money got over. It isn’t exactly unheard of.

What they can do, is to put in very little advertising. Something like Techcrunch. They have those 6 small boxes on the top right of the page which they sell for $10,000 a month. It turns out to Rs 3.16 crores a year.

IP can go in for such advertising, without bringing in too many ads. ie, create a 400×400 box for adverts, and place 4/16 ads in it, and charge for them.

So what do you think?

It would be unfair to compare TechCrunch with Indianpad. Indianpad serves different type of audience ( mostly indians vs. mostly americans ) and stories ( india based vs. tech/startups based ) when compared to TechCrunch. I will be amazed if anyone pays $10k per month for 400×400 advertisement on Indianpad.

However, I totally agree that Indianpad should start its own branding and advertising.

You got it completely wrong. It would be useless if Indianpad asks for $10 a month, but what they can do is split up the 400×600 box into 6 200×200 box.

Assuming Indianpad gets close to 5,00,000 hits per month (it’s just an estimate, but I think they are close to that). If we assume Rs 15,000 a month, (decent enough to pay for hosting) each slot would have to pay 2500 a month or just about $55, which is less than $2 a day!!!

During our last discussion on this topic IPad was getting about 200,000 hits a day and that was about 3-4 months ago!
