This may not be efficient feature in some of the cases.I think report user power is the real answer to the spam problem.

What I want from indianpad in next updates :

• No user Can post more then 5 posts from one website .Be it a member having 6 karma or a 14.8 karma guy…
• Report User Feature – more the karma more heavy reporting karma = temporary banning the account of the user for 5 hours.

This process is in place even today. If stories or comments from one user get negative votes from a variety of users then the algorithm kicks in and blocks the user and places a temporary hold on all the comments and stories posted by that user.

In case of metrix001, it took a while for the negative votes to add up but once they accumulated the user was blocked and all the comments were removed from the index as well.

We will work on making this more transparent so that the users are not left guessing about the process.

I don’t think this is easy to control. If you control the number of articles by a users, they will just create more accounts and then submit news using those accounts. IPad cant really limit the site itself as some sites (like BBC, TOI, etc) have many relevant articles every day.

A suggestion – People under 6.25 karma should not be allowed to submit more than one comment or story every 2 minutes. Some one like metrix would have to spend hours to spam the site and that would give us enough time to vote him out…

I am a new user here but I agree with beachbong that a time based limitation is better than an outright ban.

How does this work – do the site owners implement anything we decide! Do we have to code this as well or do we decide and send it to someone?

@khosla – Most of the new features on the site come from our user requests. If a request seems useful then we certainly work to make it happen.

@beachbong – that’s a good idea and seems like a safe compromise. We suggest the following time limits but there has to be some consensus around a number before we go ahead with this…

Comments – 1 comment every 2 mins
Story – 1 story every 2 mins

I think you should increase the story time to 4-5 mins as it takes more than 2 mins to write a good story…

@beach – i post 3 stories a minute, you bet if they are worthless

It depends on the agility but the correct solution is only allowing 5 stories from one website in 2 hours? – Just read indianpad’s and Beach’s earlier Comment(s), We can have some discussion on this…

I agree with Devils comments above Seems fair and a easy way to control this SPAM mennace.

Comments – 1 comment every 2 mins << Seems good
Story – 1 story every 2 mins << But changing this to 1 story every 1 min would be nice.

Also, the temporary ban rule could be slightly modified for a 6 karma person(like me ) , if 5 members vote down the comments/stories of the 6 karma user then the user should be temporarily blocked for 6 hours.

@spencer – We do not remove any stories manually.

We have taken spencer’s original suggestion and all comments with votes less than -1 will not be shown on the sidebar.

@spencer_911 – naah.. wht delete the story from a long time ago… let the story exist.. doet not make a diff…

@beachbong. banned the IP or the ID ? how will that help ? banning the ID would just invite creation of the 03/04 id’s…
