Sania Mirza made a successful return from a long-term wrist injury on Monday when she downed Marta Domachowska of Poland in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) at the Australian Open.
After missing the latter half of 2008 Mirza showed she had now recovered with an emphatic win over world number 61.
“It was a great way to begin after such a long break,” Mirza said after her first round romp.
“I’ve not played a match in almost six months now … I’m just happy to have come through.
“I feel like I’ve been hitting the ball really well over the last few days but I was a bit nervous when I went on because there’s a difference between being fit and being match-fit.”
